Chemistry I 1-2 Course Description:

Length/Credits: 2 semesters –2 credits
Open to: Grades 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Algebra I

This college preparation course meets the needs of students with average and above average skills in science and mathematics and introduces them to the world of chemistry.

Topics covered include: general concepts, S-I system of measurement, mathematics of chemistry, reactions, chemical shorthand, atomic structure, bonding, kinetic theory, physical states of matter, solutions, energy, acid-base theories, organic and nuclear chemistry and laboratory techniques.

A special effort is made to relate these concepts to students’ everyday lives.
