English 12 1-2

English 12 Course Description:

Length/Credits: 2 semesters/2 credits
Open to: Grade 12
Prerequisite: None

Also known as English Literature, English 12 surveys representative literature produced by English-speaking authors, including those in the British Isles as well as those in former British colonies. This course includes the study of major British authors from the Anglo-Saxon period to the present, literary movements and intellectual trends.

These authors and their works include many of the following: Percy, Shelley, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Wordsworth, Wollstonecraft, Gray, Thomas, Burns and Orwell. It also provides an examination of the contributions of British authors to the literary genres, such as poetry, drama, essays and novels.

Writing and classroom discussion activities provide opportunities for students to respond to literature both analytically and reflectively.
