AP English Course Description:

Length/Credits: 2 semesters/2 credits
Open to: Grades 11, 12
Prerequisite: None
Note: Students will potentially have a summer reading assignment if enrolling in the spring to start the course in the fall.

AP English Language and Composition is a course that follows the College Board Entrance Examination guidelines for Advanced Placement English. Students will read a wide range of demanding classic and contemporary works from various cultures.

In studying writers ranging from Shakespeare, Voltaire, and Dostoevskey to Charlotte Perkins Gillman, Martin Luther King Jr., and Cornel West, students will develop their critical thinking skills. Writing assignments will include frequent analytical and reflective responses to literature and various narrative, expository, and persuasive essays.

Students will also be expected to participate fully in class discussions and make presentations. Students will make use of technological resources in researching when producing their papers.
